DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products celebrates over 100 years of innovation in synthetic leathers
In 1910, one of DuPont’s first products outside its original core business of explosives was Fabrikoid, a coated fabric marketed as artificial leather. And now transforming the world again a century later, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, a joint venture between global sciences company DuPont and global renewable ingredients manufacturer Tate & Lyle, is showcasing high performing bio-based synthetic leather coatings. At the 2016 Polyurethanes Technical Conference, September 26-28, DuPont Tate & Lyle will demonstrate the versatility of using Susterra® propanediol as a building block for polyurethane applications from synthetic leather and fabric coatings to cast parts and elastomers.
“Even as far back as the 1920s automobile and upholstery manufacturers were looking for more durable fabrics for seat covers,” explains Steve Hurff, VP marketing and sales for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. “Today multi-layer polyurethane coated fabrics dominate the synthetic leather market.
